The Opening Ceremony

The opening ceremony of WJCC 2013 was held on 13th Sep.2013 at The Ness Hotel. The members of Turkish Parliament Zeki Aygün and Sibel Gonul, The Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality İbrahim Karaosmanoglu, The Mayor of Basiskele Municipality Huseyin Ayaz, The Manager of Kocaeli Youth and Sports Muzaffer Cintimar, The President of Turkish Chess Federation Gulkız Tulay, The General Secretary of the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Ersin Yazici, The Assistant of General Secretary of the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Tahir Buyukakin, The President of the Governing Party of Basiskele District Mehmet Ustaoglu, The Deputy Managing Directors of TCF Mehmet Kaya and Prof. Dr. Yusuf Dogruer, The Vice-President of TCF Askin Keles, The Members of Board of Directorate Islam Yucel and Nihal Duman, The President of Education Committee Askin Tasan, The Kocaeli Agent of Chess Halil Ibrahim Berzah, many guests and players have attended the opening ceremony.
Gulkiz Tulay, The President of Turkish Chess Federation, has made the opening speech saying;

"Dear members of the protocol! Dear players and our guests! We have the honour to be hosting the 2013 WJCC for the third time with 195 participants from 52 differents countries all over the World.

We were obliged to make some changes within our organisation which we had organised every detail of this very important event with the very kind assistance and sponsorship of the Antakya Municipality as a result of the instensive cases going around the region.

Considering that Kocaeli is one of the best and easiest place to İstanbul ( one of the favourite meeting point all over the World), we decided to have this fabolous event here in Kocaeli where chess is a high point of interest. I would like to give my best regards and gratitudes to those who made it possible in this very short moment of time.

I would like to emphasize that in the name of our federation which made a name in the international arena with high qualities of many other organisations in recent years,( being able ) to organise one of the most elit championship in the World has a great meaning for us, too.

I hope each guest of us will enjoy staying in our beautiful city, Kocaeli with its historical and cultural nature which was also hosting the WU16 in 2011 and I wish success and luck to all the participants, with the belief of fairplay and galantry.

I would like to commend my gratitudes to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Sports Manager, FIDE Presidential Board, the Governer of Kocaeli, Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality, our main sponsorship İş Bank and to those who pulled their weight on organising this event in the name of the Chess family."

The Mayor of Basiskele Region Huseyin Ayaz stated on being happy to be hosting such an important event in their region.

The Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Ibrahim Karaosmanoglu made his speech saying that " It is a matter of honor to host a World Championship in Kocaeli. We are trying our best to support any kinds of sportive activity and we are consructing the basic facilities of sports for the future.

When it is about sports, people generally would remind football. But things are changing and we all accept chess to be the very important kind of sports of intelligence. Any kind of sports is beautiful, but chess is the best of all, to me.

We have presented chess sets to every Primary School students in Kocaeli, tarining their teachers to train their students for chess and spending our time and energy to realize it. Our main purpose is Chess for everyone!

He also stated that most of the new generation are wasting their time playing computer games which deprives them from thinking, acting and doing something. Here , chess takes its place, helping them to plan, organise, think and act.

The Member of Turkish Parliament from Kocaeli region Sibel Gonul stated that Kocaeli is not only an industrial city but also pioneering all kinds of sportive and cultural events going on all around the city. She concluded her speech saying that she belived the best would be the winner of this championship. She wished succes and luck for all the players.

The Mayor of Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality Ibrahim Karaosmanoglu and The President of Turkish Chess Federation Gulkız Tulay have made the symbolic first move of the championship together.
